Hello I'm Catherine Fortey, an illustrator, artist and printmaker, who left the low-lying expanse of the Midlands to make a home in the rolling hills and moors of Yorkshire, UK. I took a round-about route to my creative practice, side stepping from a Fine Art A Level, to study Literature, Psychology, Sociology and Philosophy at degree, and later a PGCert in Early Years Education, before finally returning to art during the COVID lockdowns.
My creative practice has a firm foundation in storytelling, amplifying voices, and representation. I work across multiple disciplines, and enjoy experimenting with a playful, exploratory process.
I've completed numerous online courses and residencies including Make Art That Sells, The Goodship Illustration, Deborah Stein's Storycamp Disco, and I was a Picturehooks Buddy Scheme artist, mentored by Chris Mould, in 2022/23.
I am currently a mentee on the new Pathways Into Children's Publishing programme.
